Sara Stanković
Group for Rare Disease Research and Therapeutics Development
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Sara Stanković is a Research Assistant in the Group for Rare Disease Research and Therapeutics Development, at the IMGGE. Her research focuses on the molecular-genetic basis of rare diseases, with an emphasis on rare hereditary metabolic diseases.
She is a PhD student in the field of Molecular Biology, submodule Molecular Biomedicine, at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. As part of her PhD research, she investigates modifier genes that contribute to the development of intellectual disability in inborn errors of metabolism. The research is based on the integration of genomic and transcriptomic data, as well as existing clinical data and disease-causing variants, with the aim of detecting modifier genes and biological pathways involved in the development of intelectual disability in inborn errors of metabolism. In addition, since 2023, Sara has been assistant coordinator and information scientist within the Orphanet Serbia team.
Sara earned her Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and Physiology from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, in 2021, and after completing her master’s studies at the same faculty, in the Human Molecular Biology module, she earned her Master's degree in Molecular Biology in 2022. She enrolled in the PhD program in Molecular Biology, submodule Molecular Biomedicine, at the Faculty of Biology in 2022 and began working at IMGGE as a Junior Researcher in the same year.
