Aleksandar Bisenić
Group for Probiotics and Microbiota-Host Interaction
Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology
Aleksandar Bisenić studies the butyrate-producing function of the gut microbiota. By integrating omics approaches (genomics, metagenomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics), Aleksandar characterizes new and understudied species of butyrate-producing gut commensals to assess their potential as specialized next-generation probiotics. As part of his research, he has developed methods for isolating and cultivating anaerobic gut bacteria, bacterial comparative genomics, and chromatographic analyses of bacterial metabolites.
Aleksandar graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Belgrade, where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s studies in Biochemistry. He has been employed at IMGGE since 2022 and is currently a research assistant in the Group for Probiotics and Microbiota-Host Interaction. He believes that scientists have a responsibility to alleviate suffering, and his motivation for pursuing science comes from a vision of a prosperous future and a desire for longevity.
