Martina Mia Mitić
Group for Molecular Biology
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Martina Mia Mitić is a research assistant in the Group of Molecular Biology IMGGE. Her research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying hemostatic disorders and cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on genetic variants and their role in disease pathogenesis.
She is currently working on her PhD thesis, dedicated to the identification and functional validation of genetic biomarkers detected in patients with idiopathic thrombosis using next-generation sequencing. Her research involves whole-exome sequencing analysis, bioinformatic prediction of the functional impact of genetic variants, and prioritization of candidates with a potential role in hemostasis. Experimental validation of selected variants aims to provide deeper insight into the molecular mechanisms of idiopathic thrombosis and to define novel genetic biomarkers of potential clinical relevance.
Martina obtained her BSc in Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Kragujevac (2020), and her MSc in Molecular Biology and Physiology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade (2021). In the same year, she enrolled in PhD studies in Genetics at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and joined IMGGE in 2022 as a junior researcher.
Outside of science, she is passionate about extreme sports, actively practices scuba diving, and enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures.
