Group for molecular biomedicine
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Ivana Grubiša, PhD is a molecular biologist and physiologist, with a research focus on human population and medical genetics. She completed her undergraduate studies in molecular biology and physiology in 2006 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade. She obtained her specialist diploma in biology in 2009, and defended her doctoral thesis in genetics in 2013 from her home faculty. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Grubiša was employed as a junior researcher on a national project at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade. Since 2007, she has continued her professional career in medical genetics at the Department of Human Genetics and Prenatal Diagnostics at the University Hospital Medical Center "Zvezdara". As a member of the newly established genetic diagnostic laboratory, she introduced molecular genetic methods and improved the existing cytogenetic techniques. She was a member of the prenatal genetic counseling center at KBC "Zvezdara" from its establishment in 2008 until her transition to the IMGGE in 2023. Her research interests included the investigation of the genetic basis of common, multifactorial diseases, with a particular focus on population-specific genetic markers and their potential applications in clinical diagnostics and the detection of genetic alterations that contribute to the development of rare diseases. From 2012 to the end of 2019, she was the head of the Department of Human Genetics and Prenatal Diagnostics at HMC "Zvezdara." At the IMGGE, Dr. Grubiša continues her career as a scientist within the Molecular Biomedicine Group. She actively participates in the diagnosis of rare diseases and cancers using advanced genetic methods. She is a member of several scientific societies and engages in both domestic and international projects within her research group.
