RESEARCH INTEREST

Molecular characterization of the microorganisms with putative probiotic features isolated from homemade cheeses; characterization of the exopolysaccharides (EPS)-producing lactobacilli; cloning and functional characterization of EPS operons. In vitro interactions of lactobacilli and epithelial colorectal carcinoma cell lines (Caco-2, HT29 and HT29-MTX) and interaction with PBLs (peripheral blood lymphocytes). Testing of EPS-producing Lactobacillus paraplantarum BGCG11 which was shown to increase cytokine ratios of suppressive and immunoregulatory response as well as Th17 response, in the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes.
