Dana Stojanović

Assistant Research Professor

Group for rare disease research and therapeutics development
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics

Dana Stojanović began her academic journey in 2014, enrolling in the Molecular Biology track at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. After completing her undergraduate degree in 2018, she immediately continued her training with Master's studies at the Laboratory for Genetics, under the mentorship of Mihajla Djan, PhD. She defended her Master's thesis in 2019, exploring how polymorphisms in the EGFR gene influence survival outcomes in patients with glioblastoma — one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat brain tumors. That same year, Dana enrolled in PhD studies at Charles University in Prague, under the mentorship of Ladislav Anděra, PhD. The experimental work for her doctoral dissertation — focused on uncovering the functional roles of Bcl-2 family proteins in mitochondrial metabolism and other cellular processes — was carried out at the Laboratory of Molecular Therapy of the Biotechnology Institute, within the prestigious BIOCEV Biotechnology and Biomedical Centre. She defended her dissertation on June 27, 2024, graduating cum laude. From 2019 to 2025, Dana was employed as a researcher in the same laboratory, under the supervision of Jiří Neužil, PhD. Over the course of her research career, she has built deep expertise in cellular and molecular biology, mastering a wide range of advanced techniques — from CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and metabolic cell characterization to the analysis of cellular respiration and glycolysis, in vivo work with mouse models, and flow cytometry. Her scientific interests center on cancer biology, cellular metabolism, and the molecular mechanisms underlying cell death.
