Danka Matijašević, PhD, is an Assistant Research Professor in the Molecular Microbiology Group IMGGE. She graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade in 2009 and received her PhD in Food Microbiology in 2017. She has been continuously employed at the University of Belgrade since 2011, first as a Research Trainee and later as Research Assistant and Assistant Research Professor.

Her research focuses on the isolation and characterization of bioactive and antimicrobial compounds from fungi and other natural sources, with special attention to their potential application in food safety, infection control and medicine. She is particularly interested in investigating the antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of mushroom extracts against multidrug-resistant pathogens and the development of sustainable bioprocesses for the production of antimicrobial metabolites. In addition, her work extends to testing functional nanomaterials with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, emphasizing their potential use in biomedical applications.

She has contributed to teaching at the Faculty of Agriculture in various microbiology-related subjects, supporting both undergraduate and graduate education. She has also participated in several national and international research projects and is a member of the Serbian Society for Microbiology.
