Group for Muscle Cellular and Molecular Biology
Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Mirjana Novkovic, PhD, is an assistant researcher professor with more than ten years of experience in the field of molecular biology. She graduated in Biology from the University of Belgrade in 2012 and obtained her PhD in 2018 at the IMGGE, where her research focused on the pharmacogenetics of clopidogrel response in patients with cardiovascular diseases.
Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Novković joined the Group for Muscle Cellular and Molecular Biology, investigating the role of muscle ankyrin-repeat proteins in cardiomyopathies and mastering various techniques and methods for protein research. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was engaged at the Huo-Yan National Laboratory for Molecular Detection of Infectious Agents and continues to work on virus sequencing and data analysis at the Center for Genome Sequencing and Bioinformatics at IMGGE.
Her current work focuses on skeletal muscle repair and heart regeneration in zebrafish, with a particular interest in the role of ankrd1a as a common player in both processes. She is actively developing her skills in bioinformatics, particularly transcriptome analysis (DGEA, WGCNA), and is motivated to master multi-omics data integration approaches.
In addition to research, Dr. Novković has experience coordinating project work packages and organizing events, including participation in the organizing committees of various scientific conferences, congresses, and workshops. She has also been active in science promotion and popularization projects. She is a member of scientific societies and a participant in national and international projects.
Besides science, Mirjana enjoys tango, hiking, and traveling.
