Ljiljana Rakicevic, PhD, is a molecular biologist and physiologist with the title of Associate Research Professor. In 1996, she started her career in scientific research at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology and in 1999 she was employed in IMGGE where she wrote her Master’s thesis (Molecular diagnostics of changes in genes for coagulation factors V and VIII in hemostasis disorders) and her PhD thesis (Functional analysis of hAnkrd2 protein: regulation of expression and activity). She has been researching cardiovascular and hemostatic disorders in the field of molecular biology and molecular genetics. Her focus is not only on fundamental, but applied research as well. She has significantly contributed to recognizing how important genetics is for diagnostics, prognostics and treatment of diseases. Currently, the focus of her research is pharmacogenetics in relation to anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, as well as the development of medical protocols based on genetic analyses. She has been engaged in a large number of national and international projects, including managing projects focused on cooperation with private sector companies. She was the Vice President of Scientific Council IMGGE (2016–2019) and Deputy Head of the Technology Transfer Sector (2017-2021). In addition to her scientific work, she has been devoted to the education of young researchers, mentoring two PhD theses and several Master theses. She was hired lecturer on PhD studies at the Faculty of Biology UB and the Academy of Applied Studies, The College of Health Sciences in Belgrade.
