Sanja Skaro Bogojevic, PhD, is a research associate at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering of the University of Belgrade (IMGGI), where she conducts research in the field of sustainable biotechnology and green chemistry, focusing on the development of biotherapeutic products, the isolation and structural-functional characterization of natural products and research on the biological activity of bioactive compounds. Her research interests in biotechnology include organic synthesis and the use of innovative materials such as biopolymers. She earned her doctorate in molecular genetics and biotechnology from the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, in collaboration with the University of Nova Gorica, in 2019.
During her career, Sanja has actively participated in international projects such as H2020 BioICEP, EcoPlastiC, and the national project BioEcoLogics. She has contributed to developing innovative methodologies for plastic recycling, green approaches for producing and extracting PHA biopolymers and bioactive compounds, and integrating biological systems into the circular economy.
In addition to research work, she is also dedicated to scientific communication. Her dedication to education is reflected in her many years of involvement in promoting chemistry and biology among young people, as well as through her work on educational workshops and projects within the Association of Microbiologists of Serbia and the Serbian Chemical Society. Through a multidisciplinary approach and a commitment to precision, she considers herself an innovative researcher in the field of molecular biotechnology, with a clear focus on applying science to achieve a sustainable future.
