Development of technological processes for production of innovative probiotic products for prevention and treatment of intestinal infections in animals

Principal Investigator: Dr Natasa Golic

In order to improve animal health and reduce the use of antibiotics in livestock production novel probiotic based on natural isolates of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from laboratory collection of LMM-IMGGE was developed. According to already preformed in vivo tests, the probiotic represents powerful alternative to the use of antibiotics in treatment of intestinal infections associated with Clostridium perfrigens, E. coli, and Salmonella sp. The final goal of this Project is to develop technological processes and establish standardized productions of innovative probiotic products for animals, in form of fermented liquid products and spray-dried probiotic bacterial mixed culture and to prepare the products to become ready for commercialization. The project will be performed by four Working Groups (WG): WG1 - coordinated by LMM-IMGGE; WG2 - coordinated by INVETLAB; WG3 - coordinated by PHYTONET; and WG4 - coordinated by GREENLAB. Overal coordination of the Project will be done by Project Coordinator, dr Natasa Golic, IMGGE and the administration of the Project will be performed by the Lead Applicant GREENLAB.
