BreviProtect – Zootechnical feed additive for honey bees

Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Technology Transfer program, 1109, 2022-2023
Principal Investigator: Dr Nemanja Stanisavljevic, IMGGE
Participant: Dr Milan Kojic

Our product is a dry powder formulation containing viable spores of Brevibacillus laterosporus strain BGSP11, produced by a cost effective process of spray drying. It is intended to be a preventive agent for American foulbrood disease of honey bees (AFB) which could be administered easily through any type of honey bee feed. The main expectation from the product is to become a substitute for antibiotic therapy for AFB which is banned in the EU. Our product contains no preservatives, GMO or any other chemical potentially hazardous for honey bees or the environment, which makes it appropriate for application in both conventional and organic agriculture practices. The product has a longer shelf life than the competitors, retains stability upon package opening and contains the highest quantity of active ingredient on the market, making it cheaper for storage and transport and facilitates dosing and application for end users. We aim to reduce economic loses of EU beekeepers (€120M/y), due to AFB
