Current conservation measures are ineffective in preserving the endangered species Serbian spruce (Picea omorika) genetic diversity especially in terms of the on-going climate warming. Since the genetic diversity is essential for the long term survival of all species, the actions on conservation of the flag species of the project - Serbian spruce (omorika), will be based on the sound knowledge on levels of genetic diversity and genetic structuring of natural populations found on the territory of the National Park Tara. Therefore, genetic layout of natural populations of Serbian spruce will be assessed by the up-to-date methodology, analyses at the molecular DNA level.
