Group for Molecular Microbiology
Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology
Nikola Plačkić is a Junior Researcher in the Molecular Microbiology Group, IMGGE. His research focuses on bacteriophage biology, the identification of novel antivirulence agents, as well as the application of zebrafish embryo models in infection biology.
His doctoral dissertation is dedicated to developing new strategies for the treatment of infections caused by Acinetobacter baumannii. The research is centered on establishing a collection of bacteriophages active against clinical isolates of A. baumannii from diverse origins, as well as identifying new virulence inhibitors that can destabilize biofilms, reduce pathogenicity, and increase bacterial sensitivity to phages.
Nikola obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Biomedicine from the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade in 2022, followed by a Master’s degree in Biology in 2023 at the same faculty. He enrolled in doctoral studies in Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology in 2023 and has been employed as a research trainee at IMGGE since 2024.
