The final meeting of the project funded by MAFWM
The final meeting of the project "Conservation of animal genetic resources using molecular-genetic characterization - model bush cattle", financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, number 680-00-00041/1/2021-02, was held on Friday, 16th September 2022 in the premises of IMGGE. At the opening of the meeting, the director of the institute, Dr. Jelena Begovic, addressed the guests present, and emphasized the importance of the application of science and new technologies in the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable and innovative use of genetic resources of domestic animals. Dr. Srdjan Stojanovic, from the sector for rural development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, emphasized the importance of animal genetic resources for our country, as well as the efforts that Serbia invests in their conservation, to which projects like this one, implemented at IMGGE, undoubtedly contribute. Director of the Animal Husbandry Institute, Dr. Cedomir Radovic, expressed his satisfaction that the state recognizes the need to improve the conservation of animal genetic resources by applying new methodologies, such as molecular genetic characterization, as well as the hope that such activities will continue in the future.
The head of the project, Dr. Jelena M. Aleksic, then presented the results of the project to the present dignitaries - directors of agricultural advisory and expert services, representatives of the main, regional and basic breeding organizations, breeders, faculty professors and researchers, realized by a multidisciplinary team of 12 participated experts from four renowned scientific institutions in Serbia: IMGGE, Institute of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade.
At the meeting, the results of the project "Conservation of animal genetic resources using molecular genetic characterization - autochthonous pig breeds" were presented by the director of the Animal Husbandry Institute, Dr. Cedomir Radovic, as well as results of current national projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia related to the morphological and genetic characterization of Pramanka sheep - head Dr. Dragana Ruzic Muslic from the Institute of Animal Husbandry, the project on genebanks of animal genetic resources - head Dr. Jelena M. Aleksic from IMGGE, as well as the CLIAVE project funded by the European Union which refers to climate-oriented agricultural professional development, in which the Institute for Animal Husbandry participates.
The participants of the meeting were also presented with the probiotic for animals Hiravet, from the company InvetLab.
The final message of the meeting was that the established cooperation of institutions involved in the conservation of animal genetic resources should be continued, as well as further work on improving the conservation of animal genetic resources in Serbia.
