International Rare Disease Day
A disease is considered to be rare if affects small number of people (1 in 2000). However, there are thousands of rare diseases. Currently, almost 7000 have been registered, and novel diseases are being described in medical literature. Rare diseases are severe, often chronic and progressive. For majority of them, clinical signs are seen at birth or during childhood because they are inherited. Cause of many rare diseases is unknown, and there is only around 50 diseases that can be specifically treated. Therefore, IMGGE works on development of diagnostic methods and development of new therapeutic approaches for some rare diseases in order to help patients in Serbia.
As every year, IMGGE joined National Organization for Rare Diseases of Serbia in celebrating Rare Disease Day. At the IMGGE we had the Tree of positive thoughts where employees could put messages of support for people with rare diseases.
