Luka Bojić

Research Assistant

Luka Bojic is a research assistant in the Group for Human Molecular Genetics at the IMGGE. His doctoral research focuses on the identification of molecular subtypes of osteosarcoma in patients without metastases and without prior chemotherapy, with the goal of uncovering molecular mechanisms that underlie the heterogeneity of this rare and aggressive bone cancer. By characterizing distinct molecular subtypes, his work seeks to clarify the biological processes and signaling pathways that drive tumor progression and treatment resistance, thereby creating a foundation for the development of more precise and effective therapeutic strategies.

His dissertation, entitled Identification of Molecular Subtypes of Osteosarcoma and the Application of 3D Osteosarcoma Model Systems for Testing the Antitumor Effects of Selected Bioactive Compounds, combines bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data with experimental validation in advanced three-dimensional osteosarcoma models. This integrative approach enables both the discovery of novel therapeutic targets and the evaluation of bioactive compounds with potential antitumor activity.

Luka earned his BSc in Molecular Biology and Physiology from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology, in 2021, followed by an MSc in the same field with a specialization in Immunobiology in 2022. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology. Since 2022, he is employed at the IMGGE, where he contributes to research on cancer mechanisms, resistance pathways, and preclinical testing of candidate therapies.

Through his research, Luka is committed to advancing the understanding of osteosarcoma biology and contributing to the development of therapies that may improve outcomes for patients affected by this challenging malignancy.
