Lidija Djokic, PhD, is a molecular biologist with a research focus on the application of microbial enzymes in bioremediation, biocatalysis, and the treatment of bacterial infections. She graduated in 2004 from the Molecular Biology and Physiology program at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and earned her PhD at the same faculty in 2010, with a dissertation on the metagenomic analysis of rhizospheres of endemic-relict plants and the isolation of phenol-degrading bacteria. She has been affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE) since 2004. She introduced a metagenomic approach in the analysis of microbial diversity in the laboratory and studied phenol-tolerant bacteria and their application in bioremediation.
Her recent research was focused on bacterial enzymes with the aim of improving their stability and efficiency in the treatment of bacterial infections. She has led three innovation projects, two funded by the Innovation Fund of the Republic of Serbia and one by the European Commission and co-led an international project on genome sequencing of bacteria with bioremediation potential. She is also actively engaged in innovation and has three national and one international patent applications. Lidija has been a member of the IMGGE Sector for Technology Transfer since its establishment in 2016 and has been its head since 2023.
