Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Genomics
Emilija Milošević, PhD, is an Assistant Research Professor in the Muscle Cellular and Molecular Biology Group at IMGGE, where she has been employed since 2019. She earned her PhD (2024), MSc (2018), and BSc (2017) in Biology from the University of Belgrade, specializing in molecular biology and experimental biomedicine.
Her research focuses on the role of the ANKRD1 protein in human disease, particularly in rhabdomyosarcomas. She is dedicated to developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for pediatric sarcomas, including rhabdomyosarcoma and osteosarcoma. Her PhD thesis investigated the ANKRD1 gene and evaluated the anti-tumor potential of the natural compound violacein in rhabdomyosarcoma cells.
Emilija's work also extends to regenerative biology. She contributed to the ZEBARR project (Science Fund of Serbia, program IDEAS), investigating heart regeneration and skeletal muscle repair in zebrafish, and is currently involved in the Horizon Europe ZeNCure project, with the aim to expand IMGGE’s capacities in biomedical research using zebrafish.
Outside the laboratory, she enjoys yoga, music, and hiking.
