Dr Bojan Ristivojević is an assistant research professor in the Group for Molecular Biomedicine IMGGE. He has been employed at the Institute since 2017. He obtained his PhD in 2023 with the doctoral dissertation entitled “Pharmacogenetic Markers of Response to Therapy with Thiopurine Drugs, Methotrexate, and Vincristine in Children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia”.

His scientific and professional work is focused on molecular biomedicine, with a particular emphasis on pharmacogenomics and the application of next-generation sequencing technologies in research and diagnostic contexts. His work addresses genetic factors that influence therapeutic response and the occurrence of adverse drug reactions, particularly in pediatric hemato-oncology patients, as well as the development of personalized treatment approaches based on genomic data.

In addition to his research activities, he actively participates in the work of the Center for Clinical Genomics at IMGGE, where he contributes to the molecular genetic diagnostics of rare diseases in Serbia. Within this framework, his work includes the application of next-generation sequencing technologies, as well as the evaluation and interpretation of genetic variants. He is responsible for maintaining and improving existing laboratory procedures and diagnostic workflows.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was part of the first expert team engaged at the “Fire Eye” laboratory in Belgrade, which played a central role in molecular testing for SARS-CoV-2. He was also a member of the IMGGE team that, following the establishment of the Center for Genome Sequencing and Bioinformatics, used next-generation sequencing to monitor the evolution and spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Serbia.
