Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology
Ana Pantelić is a Research Assistant in the Plant Molecular Biology Group IMGGE. Her research is centered on studying desiccation tolerance and late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins in the resurrection plant Ramonda serbica—an ancient Balkan endemic species renowned for its exceptional tolerance to extreme drought.
Her doctoral research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying desiccation tolerance in R. serbica, with a particular emphasis on the structural and functional characterization of LEA proteins. Ana’s work includes proteomics and transcriptomics analysis, protein expression, isolation and purification, and structural and functional analyses of LEA proteins. She also explores their interactions with intracellular macromolecules, complemented by bioinformatics approaches.
Ana obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade, in 2020, followed by a Master’s degree in Biochemistry in 2021. In the same year, she enrolled in the PhD program in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and joined IMGGE as a Junior Researcher.
