Research interest:

My current research interest is focused on the link between mitochondria and ageing. Recently, our group has shown that in mice an increase in the mutation rate of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) negatively affects ageing. These mtDNA mutator mice display a wide range of progeroid phenotypes including kyphosis, osteoporosis and premature death. Therefore, one of the future goal of my research is to address whether a decrease in mtDNA mutation rate can ameliorate progeroid phenotypes and delay the onset of age-related diseases. To achieve this, I am using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and the mouse as model organisms
