Scientific interests

Investigating the role of Muscle ankyrin repeat protein (MARP) family in development, stress response and cardiac regeneration in Danio rerio (zebrafish) model organism.

Using a reverse-genetic approach, through mutant generation by CRISPR/Cas9 technology, we are investigating the role of MARP genes in the process of formation and remodeling of cardiac muscle after exposure to various forms of stress. We use cryo-injury (fast freezing) of cardiac muscle to model cardiac infarction, after which we can study complete tissue regeneration and scar resolution. Using beaker forced swimming methodology, we can achieve various levels of physical activity and analyse the response to new conditions.

Generation of transgenic lines (BAC and reporter lines) by using tol2 mediated transgenesis allows us to follow gene expression in vivo and perform overexpression experiments.

Maintenance and improvement of our fish facility: design and manufacture of circulating housing systems with centralized filtration and water treatment.
