Research interest:
I am interested in understanding cellular responses to their environment. Bacterial chemotaxis as the best-studied signalling transduction pathway in biology is suitable to investigate how environmental stimuli are perceived and processed to give distinct cellular response. During my PhD work I studied molecular interactions of plant pathogenic bacteria with their hosts and bacterial cell-to-cell communication. I characterized novel beneficial bacterial species as agents to control plant pathogenic species. During my first postdoc I got experience into biochemistry of protein complexes responsible for bacterial motility and surface contacts and I gained knowledge in advanced microscopic methods including fluorescent and time-lapse microscopy. I was actively involved in collaborations with mathematicians and biophysicists studying bacterial multicellular behaviour and pattern formations. In the last years I gained knowledge in novel fluorescence-based methods used to analyse cellular responses in vivo. Great achievement of my recent work was to get deeper insight into molecular basis of how bacterial chemotactic system works at different ambient temperatures. Together with our collaborators we are currently progressing towards understanding the mechanism of bacterial tactic responses to thermal stimuli.
