INSTITUTE OF MOLECULAR GENETICS
AND GENETIC ENGINEERING
University of Belgrade

Dr Branka Vasiljevic

Dr Branka Vasiljevic has been permanently employed in IMGGE since the first day of its establishment. She came to IMGGE from the Scientific Institute Vinca and brought with her the research topic that was the focus of her thesis - molecular genetics of actinomycetes and antibiotic resistance. She was IMGGE director from 1999 to 2010. Since 1998, she has been Head of the "Laboratory 05".

She has ended her teaching career at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade in 2003, but has not forgotten her former students, biologists, geneticists, biochemists and microbiologists, and is still proud of their achievements. She maintains contacts with young people not only as head of the laboratory, but also as a delegate of the Association of Microbiologists of Serbia in FEMS and president of the Serbian Genetic Society.

In addition to actinomycetes, she is now interested in other "powerful" bacteria which could hopefully be used in a process of green biotechnology.
Still is still dealing with the administrative duties as a member of the Academic Ranks Commission of the Ministry of Science and a member of the Presidency of the Association of the Scientific Institutes of Serbia.
