Gene Bank for Plant Genetic Resources (PGR)

The IMGGI Gene Bank for Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) represents an ex situ collection of accessions of plant taxa whose samples (tissues, DNAs) are stored at low temperatures. The collection mainly comprises samples of plant taxa that are endemic to the Balkan Peninsula, and are rare and endangered, e.g., IUCN red-listed conifer Serbian spruce, Picea omorika (Panč.) Purk. It also includes accessions of agronomically important but neglected plant species grown in the Balkans, e.g., faba bean, Vicia faba L.
