Laboratorija za molekularnu biologiju biljaka je osnovana 2002. godine. Istraživanja u laboratoriji pokrivaju različite aspekte molekularne biologije biljaka:
- ispitivanje mehanizama odgovora biljaka na različite faktore abiotičkog stresa (nutritivni stres, toksični metali, suša, salinitet, temperaturni stres…) na transkripcionom i posttranskripcionom nivou
- istraživanja na polju mikroevolucije (populacione genetike), filogeografije i makroevolucije (filogenije) biljaka
- izolacija i karakterizacija bioaktivnih jedinjenja iz biljaka; testiranje bioraspoloživosti i efekata na humane ćelije i zebrice
- proučavanje homologne rekombinacije i njene uloge u patogenezi gljiva na modelu Ustilago maydis
U Laboratoriji za molekularnu biologiju biljaka razvijena je i usluga: Detekcija, identifikacija i kvantifikacija genetičkih modifikacija prisutnih kod biljaka i u hrani biljnog porekla, primenom metode kvalitativnog PCR i kvantitativnog RealTime PCR. Metode sadržane u ponuđenoj usluzi su akreditovane prema SRPS ISO/IEC 17025.
- Molekularni mehanizmi odgovora biljaka na abiotički stres – uloga transkripcionih faktora i malih RNK i analiza genetičkog diverziteta biljnih kultura od interesa za poljoprivredu i biotehnologiju
