SRY is a sex-determining gene on the Y chromosome. Mutations in this gene lead to a range of sex-related disorders with varying effects on an individual's phenotype and genotype. Detection of SRY gene by PCR provides reliable information about the presence of SRY gene in patient genome. It is necessary to conduct this test in line with caryotype testing in patients with sex reversal (XY feale or XX male) or patients with ambiguous genital caracteristics.
