European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), based in Brussels, is the sponsor of the international event dedicated to the promotion of scientific disciplines concerned with the study of plants. The aim of this event is to inform the widest possible audience about the importance of plant sciences and their applications in agriculture, sustainable production of food, horticulture, forestry, and some industries, such as paper, biofuels, chemicals and medicines. A particularly important aspect of this promotional event is highlighting the role of plants in the protection and preservation of the environment.
Plants are fascinating and unique because they produce sugars using only sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. This ability to independently produce food, great possibilities of adaptation and diversity of forms enabled the plants to occupy all the niches on Earth. It is estimated that our planet is inhabited and decorated by over 250 000 plant species.
Facination of Plants Day IMGGE usually marks with an appropriate program and activities.
