Ankrd2 protein in striated muscle

Ankrd2 protein has a structural role as a component of mechanosensory complex in the sarcomere and a regulatory function in the nucleus as co-factor of transcription. It acts as signal molecule in stress triggered mechanisms and is involved in myogenic differentiation and myoblast proliferation. The aim of our study is to accurately determine the expression profile and subcellular localisation of Ankrd2 in normal conditions and under the influence of stressors using human and animal model systems. One aspect of research is determination of temporal and spatial expression profiles of Ankrd2 in zebrafish where it has not been previously studied. Our research would contribute to the understanding of pleiotropic function of Ankrd2 in skeletal muscle and heart.
